If you want to manage your weight, combat premature aging, lower blood pressure, and relax, consider adding pistachio nuts to your menu.
The pistachio nuts are part of the cashew family but are technically the seeds of the pistachio tree with a yellowish-green tint and salty-sweet taste. Originating in Central Asia, this tasty nut traces back to the Bronze Age—that’s old, folks!
If you’re like me and struggle with snacking throughout the day to stay full, pistachio nuts may help keep you full longer since the nuts are packed with fiber and protein. I usually snack on these nuts mid-morning to get me through until lunchtime. I enjoy breaking open the shells for the delightful treat inside.
In addition to the benefits of weight control, I take pleasure in knowing that I can slow down my aging with each bite. Several studies show that the high levels of antioxidants fight components that cause premature aging and other chronic illnesses.
Other research has linked lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels to the consumption of pistachios. Also, the high fiber content coupled with high amounts of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats has been proven to reduce the risk of heart disease.
And finally, the most surprising benefit of eating pistachios is relaxation. Good Housekeeping magazine hails pistachios as one of the foods that help you sleep through the night. Packed with Vitamin B-6 and magnesium, zinc, and potassium, pistachios can help your body relax and contribute to a restful sleep.
While there are many reasons to add these healthy nuts to your diet, you should do so in moderation and talk to your doctor about the right foods to consume to reach your health goals. Meanwhile, get to crackin’.
